Hi, I’m Maya 🌿
I’m a California-based Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Mediterranean Diet expert, and young breast cancer survivor. But my relationship with food started long before the titles.
I was born in Grenoble, France, and raised in Damascus, Syria, where food was always about flavor, family, and balance. The Mediterranean way of eating wasn’t a trend or a diet; it was simply how we lived.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Nutrition from the University of California, Davis, and a Coordinated Master’s in Business and Dietetics from Dominican University, where I had the honor of serving as the commencement opener for my graduating class.
My training provided the scientific foundation for the evidence-based nutrition guidance I share today.
At 29 years old, I was diagnosed with bilateral invasive breast cancer linked to a genetic mutation (ATM).
Over the next three years, I went through chemotherapy, radiation, and six major reconstructive surgeries. During that time, nutrition became something I relied on daily to support my body through treatment and recovery.
That experience strengthened my commitment to science and deepened my belief in the role nutrition can play in long-term health and quality of life.
Mayazbites is where I share the Mediterranean diet lifestyle I personally use to:
-
Support long-term health
-
Maintain a sustainable, healthy weight
-
Feel strong and energized
-
Navigate long-term hormone therapy, including tamoxifen
Here you’ll find simple recipes, balanced meals, and practical nutrition tools designed for real life.
My philosophy is simple:
No extreme diets.
No restriction.
No perfection.
Just balanced, flavorful food rooted in the Mediterranean lifestyle and evidence-based nutrition.
Rooted in science. Meant for life.
That’s what Mayazbites is all about.
If you’re looking for a sustainable way of eating that supports your health while still enjoying food, you’re in the right place.
Welcome 🤍
