Hi, I’m Maya 🌿
I’m a California-based Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Mediterranean Diet expert, and young breast cancer survivor. But my relationship with food started long before the titles.
I was born in Grenoble, France, and raised in Damascus, Syria, where food was always about flavor, family, and balance. The Mediterranean way of eating wasn’t a trend or a diet; it was simply how we lived.
After completing my formal nutrition education — and even having the honor of being my commencement opener — my world shifted. At 29, I was diagnosed with bilateral invasive breast cancer linked to a genetic mutation (ATM).
That experience deepened my commitment to science and strengthened my belief in the powerful role nutrition plays in long-term wellness. Nourishing my body during treatment was not optional; it was essential.
Nourishing my body allowed me to sustain three years of intense medical treatment, including chemotherapy, radiation, and over six major surgeries.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Nutrition from The University of California, Davis, and a Coordinated Master’s in Business and Dietetics from Dominican University.
My education provided me with the science, and my lived experience gave me perspective. Together, they shape everything I share today.
Here at Mayazbites, I share the Mediterranean Diet lifestyle I personally use to:
-
Support long-term health and lower recurrence risk
-
Maintain a healthy, sustainable weight
-
Feel strong, energized, and confident in my body
-
Navigate long-term hormone therapy, including tamoxifen
You’ll find simple recipes, balanced meals, and practical nutrition tools and resources designed for real life- no restrictions, no perfection, and no extremes.
Rooted in science. Meant for life.
That’s what Mayazbites is all about.
If you’re looking for a healthier relationship with food, better energy, or a way of eating you can actually stick to, you’re in the right place.
Welcome 🤍
